MRPD changes, garage persistence, recycle payouts, pimping dispatch logic, dealership visibility and vehicle customization received major attention.

Casino, interiors, armories and creator tooling

01 // FIRST CONNECTION

Getting Started

01

Access HackNet

Use the HackNet access point configured in the city. The system opens your persistent hacker profile, XP, talents, routers and clearance.

02

Unlock Hello, World

Spend your first talent point on Hello, World. This opens the Street Net contract board.

03

Buy a Consumer Router

The starter Consumer Router costs $5,000, uses Class 1 bandwidth and starts with 0 masking. The Street Net board always includes at least one Firewall 0 contract you can run.

04

Select the Right Job

Compare the contract’s router class and firewall against your selected router. Both requirements must be met before connecting.

05

Survive All 3 Phases

Contracts move through Prep → Intrusion → Escape. Failure burns the connection and adds trace to the router.

06

Build XP & Talents

Successful jobs pay cash and XP. Levels award talent points that unlock better networks, routers and specialist bonuses.

02 // ROUTERS

Hardware & Firewall Rules

A router is your network identity. Class decides which contract tier it can access. Masking decides how strong a firewall it can penetrate.

RouterClassMaskingPriceTrace Decay
Consumer Router10$5,0004/hr
Modded Consumer120$12,0006/hr
Gaming Router230$28,0008/hr
Tuned Gaming240$52,00010/hr
Carrier Router350$95,00012/hr
Tuned Carrier360$165,00015/hr
Firewall rule: a Firewall 38 contract requires masking 38 or higher. Router class still has to match the contract network.

Discarding used routers

Open Hardware and choose Discard Router. Click the in-game confirmation a second time. Hardware attached to an active contract or gauntlet cannot be discarded. If the selected router is discarded, HackNet selects another owned router when possible.

04 // TRACE

Trace, Burns & Recovery

+2

Successful Contract

Even clean work leaves light traffic.

+6

Fail Prep

The lightest normal failure penalty.

+16

Fail Intrusion

A failed breach leaves a louder trail.

+22

Fail Escape

The largest normal contract burn.

100

Router Blocked

At 100 trace the router cannot connect until trace drops.

Passive decay: routers lose trace over time, with better hardware cooling faster. Log Wiper enables manual trace scrubbing and No Logs, No Crime reduces failure trace.

05 // CLEARANCE

Gauntlets

Gauntlets are promotion exams. You need enough XP, the required talent and usable hardware. Passing permanently raises your HackNet clearance.

GAUNTLET I

Become Operator

2,500 XP • 7 challenges • Proving Grounds talent

Failure: +35 trace and a 30-minute retry cooldown.

GAUNTLET II

Become Ghost

10,000 XP • 10 challenges • Operator Exam talent

Failure: +45 trace and a 6-hour retry cooldown.

GAUNTLET III

Become Legend

50,000 XP • 12 challenges • The Long Con talent

Failure: +60 trace and a 7-day retry cooldown.

06 // TALENT TREE

Talent Roadmap

Core Entry

Hello, World → Log Wiper / Multitasker / Wardriver

Operator Path

Multitasker → Proving Grounds → Reliable Fixer → Broadband → Operator Exam

Ghost Path

Operator Exam → The Syndicate → Black Box → No Logs, No Crime → root@everything → The Long Con

Specialists

Wardriver → Jackpotter / Phone Phreak. Data Broker boosts payouts. Multitasker boosts XP.

Recommended: Hello, World → Multitasker → Proving Grounds → Gauntlet I → Reliable Fixer → Broadband → Operator Exam → Gauntlet II → The Syndicate → Black Box.
07 // PROFIT & STREAKS

Making HackNet Pay

Protect clean streaks

Every consecutive success adds a 5% payout and XP bonus, up to 10 stacks. Failure resets the streak.

Match hardware to the job

Don’t attempt a firewall your router cannot mask. Upgrade before pushing higher bands.

Keep a backup router

Rotate hardware while trace decays. Discard equipment only when you are finished with it.

Time promotions carefully

Gauntlet failures have larger trace penalties and cooldowns. Enter with low trace and focus.

08 // TROUBLESHOOTING

Common Questions

Why does a contract say my firewall level is too low?

The contract firewall is above your selected router’s masking. Select stronger hardware or a lower-firewall job. Starter Street Net always has at least one Firewall 0 contract.

Why is a contract locked?

You may be missing a talent, clearance rank or correct router class. Tier 2 and Tier 3 require gauntlet promotions.

Why is my router blocked?

It reached 100 trace. Let trace decay, scrub trace with talents, or switch to another usable router.

Why can’t I discard a router?

Hardware currently used by an active contract or gauntlet is protected. Finish that session first.

Do I lose progress when I log out?

No. XP, level, talents, clearance, stats and owned routers are stored persistently for your character.
